About KarkiDanda
Background of Karki Danda – Pokhara, Nepal

History and Origin of the Name:
The name “Karki Danda” is believed to have originated from the settlement of ancestors bearing the surname "Karki." As these people gradually settled on the elevated hilly terrain—referred to as “Danda” in Nepali—the place came to be known as “Karki Danda.” Traditionally, this area has been home to a community that actively participated in military service (notably the Gorkhas), agriculture, and various social activities.
Geographical Setting and Environment:
Being located at a higher altitude, Karki Danda enjoys a generally cool and pleasant climate. It has increasingly become an attraction for both domestic and international tourists seeking sunrise and sunset views. The area’s lush greenery, terraced fields, and the peaceful coexistence of diverse ethnic groups enhance its natural beauty and cultural charm.
Current Status:
Today, Karki Danda is an emerging residential and developing area, with infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, education, and tourism facilities either already in place or under development. The local population is engaged in agriculture, business, foreign employment, and service-based professions.
In Summary:
